Untitled- 2010
This work could quite simply be called ‘Collected Image’. It is like a silent storm, reflecting my thoughts as I was putting it together. One of the joys of putting a picture together is to create some sort of confusion or nervousness for the viewers. The joy part takes place when you listen to their opinions and comments, because although many are unnerved in such a situation they still search for symbolism in the image. These elements came from different places and times and were then blended visually, making the image central to a visual buildup.
Creative work is dependent on creating something new and unique. The lines are crucial because they play an active role between the subject and the targeted content in the image, making the success of any image contingent on the use of the main lines that reflect the required content and nature of the subject. This makes the imagining process which relies on contemplating the visual reserves of the brain a lot easier; after all the process is created by the subconscious mind. The line is the artist’s imprint on the creation process of the work’s emotional state and is considered the primary element in the formation. This formula is quite similar to the Surrealist works that are reformulated and repainted on a painting or a photograph. The process of blending ideas depends on the visual reserves, not only those in the artist’s mind but also those in their laptop.
The work is based on the blending process where elements and things from nature are distorted either through changing their color, shape or size. By distortion I don’t mean deformation, just a simple change in the way they actually look. It also depends on putting together a collection of images and forming relationships between them in one formation, something more akin to collage - without radically altering the collected images. The viewer is confused as they find it difficult to pinpoint this blending between things, which indirectly portrays what the media and advertising carry: a collection of images that are largely unrreal and generally present a visual and mental contamination. This work is then a representation of the state of visual contamination and distortion we find ourselves in today. As we are bombarded by more and more commercial advertising, increasingly mixed with the politics of some country, the image has become predominant to an extent that you can find it anywhere from street to bedroom. This image combines memory with remembering, collective memory with personal memories that are no longer centered inside the individual but are becoming part of the social network as a result of the interaction with society. Through conversation and discussions with others such as family, friends and others, one can remember important moments and experiences in their life.
